DR. MLK MEMORIAL WALK: RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MANAGEMENT GROUP OF THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE NON-IMPACT EVENT KNOWN AS "DR. MLK MEMORIAL WALK' TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 15, 2024 ALONG NW 1ST AVENUE AND NW 2ND STREET.

The Special Events Technical Advisory Committee (SETAC) recommends the Development Services Management Group (DSMG) make a Motion to approve the special event known as the Dr. MLK Memorial Walk to be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 2:00 - 2:45 p.m., along NW 1st Avenue from the Delray Beach Community Center (50 NW 1st Avenue) northward toward NW 2nd Street, then westward along NW 2nd Street to Pompey Park (1101 NW 2nd Street).

Background:
The event producer, KOP Mentoring Network, submitted an application for this event has been held in the CIty for close to 40 years and is a known event in which the community looks forward to participating. In the past, this event has been held on West Atlantic Avenue however, the permit application was not filed in time to obtain a roadway closure permit from the Florida Department of Transportation. Sans a permit, the event producer has requested a rolling road closure with the walk starting at the Delray Beach Community Center and proceeding northward along NW 1st Avenue to NW 2nd Street at which time the route will turn westward on NW 2nd Street and proceed to Pompey Park at 1101 NW 2nd Street. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and be completed at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Special Events Technical Advisory (SETAC) Review:
SETAC reviewed this item at their January 11, 2024 meeting and recommends DSMG approve the event.
No special conditions are recommended by SETAC.
