Recommendation

Recommended Action:

The Development Services Management Group (DSMG) is asked to make a recommendation to the City Commission regarding the Impact Event known as Easter Sunrise Service to be held on Sunday, April 20, 2025. This event is deemed an Impact Event due to a requested closure of the major roadway of State Road A1A between East Atlantic Avenue and Miramar Drive.

 

Body

Background:

Cason Church submitted a Special Event Application on April 4, 2024. Anticipated attendance is 450 participants for the Easter Sunrise Service. The church has been holding this service for over 50 years. The service will be attended by both residents and tourists. The service will take place at the pavilion and in the roadway. This event has taken place for over 50 years and most recently on Easter Sunday of 2024. The church did have a permit violation in 2024.  They had attendees and speakers out on the beach and were not permitted for anything on the beach. Cason church received a letter about the permit violation. The church apologized and stated they will make sure it will not happen again. 

 

Special Events Technical Advisory (SETAC) Review:

SETAC reviewed and recommended approval of the event.

No special conditions beyond the standard permits were recommended by SETAC.

 

Funding Source/Financial Impact:

Cason is considered a Non-Profit Entity under the Special Event Policy, the City will waive 50% of the

City's soft costs for the event.

 

Timing of Request:

Item is required to go before the City Commission for approval prior to the event.
