Title

APPROVAL AND EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH AND COMMUNITY CHILD CARE CENTER OF DELRAY BEACH, Inc. FOR FUNDING OF THE JOURNEY’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT ORCHARD VIEW ELEMENTARY

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve the Agreement between the City of Delray Beach and the Community Care Center Of Delray Beach, Inc. d/b/a the Achievement Centers for Children and Families (ACCF) for funding of the Journey’s summer reading program at Orchard View Elementary School.

Body

Background:

In December of last year, the City Commission approved an agreement between the School Board of Palm Beach County, the City of Delray Beach and ACCF for the funding and operation of out-of-school programs at Pine Grove Elementary and Village Academy schools. The Tripartite agreement addressed the operations of the programs and suggested that the City enter into a separate funding agreement with ACCF. That “funding” agreement was approved at the City Commission meeting on December 8, 2015 for $62,000.00, which supports the out-of-school programs and the summer camp Journey’s reading program as part of the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.

In late spring 2016, ACCF expanded their summer camp program to include Orchard View Elementary School and it is currently servicing approximately 80 at-risk students. The Orchard View summer camp is participating in the summer Journey’s reading program and the City wishes to collect student data to measure the summer learning slide. Therefore, we would like to support the program by funding them $10,000, which is the action before the City Commission.
