Recommended Action:
Special Events Technical Advisory Committee (SETAC) recommends the Development Service Management Group (DSMG) make a Motion to deny the special event known as Delray Exotic Auto Show Presented by Lamborghini of Palm Beach and One Source Car to be held on September 29, 2024.
Body
Background:
Exotic Auto Shows LLC submitted a Special Event Application on April11, 2024 to hold an exotic car show on Old School Square, NE 2nd Ave and in Worthing Park. The request was reviewed by SETAC on May 2, 2024. This event is to provide families a fun way to get up close to high end exotic vehicles and bring in high end clients to Delray. Also to inspire your kids to dream big. The event will help local businesses by bringing in a crowd of wealthy individuals and families of all types who will eat and shop.
Special Events Technical Advisory Committee (SETAC):
SETAC was not unanimous in their vote. The vote was 7-2 to recommend DSMG to deny this event. Police, Special Events, Parks and Recreation and Emergency Management were a few of the departments to voice concerns over the event. Some of the concerns stated were that we already have two successful car shows at Old School Square during the "season". Parks and Recreation stated they did not want another car show. Another concern was the separation of the VIP area and the rest of the show by Atlantic Avenue and crowds trying to cross Atlantic back and forth.Police said they would not support an event crossing Atlantic Avenue. Worthing Park is not fit for,nor made to have events or parts of events let alone a vehicle in it. Another point that was brought up was that this event has no connections to community partners like other events and car shows that give back to the Delray Beach Community.
Funding Source/Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact to the city. The event producer would be charged for all costs
Timing of Request:
The event producer needs to know if they will have an event or not.
