Title

RETROACTIVE APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY BLIGHTED AND DISTRESSED PROPERTY CLEAN-UP GRANT

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Retroactive approval of the CRA’s application to the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County for its annual Blighted and Distressed Property Clean-Up Grant (Grant.)

Body

Background:

The primary goal of the Grant request is to assist in the cleanup of distressed, blighted or otherwise impacted properties and to maintain safe, habitable and viable neighborhoods.

If the CRA’s application is approved by the SWA, this grant would provide funds to address activities related to demolishing a dilapidated, unused parking lot for future development within the NW 600 Block of West Atlantic Avenue and the removal of demolition products, rubble and other debris.

The CRA-owned properties included in the Grant application are listed below and details are included in Exhibit A - Application Package.

1.                     23 NW 7th Avenue                      (PCN #: 12-43-46-17-01-012-0260)

2.                     NW 7th Avenue                      (PCN #: 12-43-46-16-01-012-0010)

The demolition project aligns with the objectives of the SWA Grant in that they will improve the quality of life and provide a safer, healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the residents of the City of Delray Beach.  If awarded, the CRA would receive $20,000 on a reimbursement basis to perform the demolition activities. The CRA has previously been awarded SWA Grant funds for various projects.

The 2023-2024 SWA Grant was due on October 18, 2023. At this time, CRA Staff is requesting the CRA Board retroactively approve the submission of the CRA’s 2023-2024 SWA Grant Application.
