Background:
This is a proposed amendment to the Education Board ordinance that clarifies the board composition, size, duties, and responsibilities.The ordinance seeks to reduce the number of Education Board size from thirteen members to seven members. The ordinance also seeks to amend the qualifications of Education Board members, requiring each appointee to have one of the following titles or qualifications: early childhood professional, executive director of an educational non profit organization located in Delray Beach, an operator of a Delray Beach business that promotes workforce opportunities, a Delray Beach educator or administrator, a higher education or adult education professional, a mental and behavior health professional, and a parent, legal guardian, or student enrolled at a public school within Delray Beach. Finally, the ordinance seeks to clarify the duties and responsibilities of the Education Board to ensure continuous educational advocacy through the strategic planning of quality education initiatives.
The purpose of the amended ordinance is to create a centralized body of high-level board members that will coordinate efforts to advance Delray beach's education and workforce development goals. The Education Board will continue to engage with local private educational providers, non-profit agencies and community organizations through stakeholder meetings that will promote continues collaboration and external opportunities.
