Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to approve Resolution No. 159-25 approving an agreement with Shade Systems, Inc., for the purchase and installation of sunshade structures utilizing School Board Of Alachua County Invitation For Bid 24-13 in the not to exceed amount of $284,566 and authorizing the City Manager to execute any amendments and/or renewals and take any actions necessary to effectuate this agreement.

Body

Background:

The School Board of Alachua County issued Invitation for Bid 24-13 and entered into an agreement with Shade Systems, Inc. Parks and Recreation is seeking approval to utilize this agreement in order to receive discounted contract pricing to procure shade structures and installation for various parks throughout the city.

Because exposure to the sun’s harmful U.V. rays is the leading cause of skin cancer and other sun related disorders, outdoor activities can be enjoyed more safely and comfortably under the shade. The shade systems are also equipped with an easy to use Turn-N-Slide canopy removal and re-attachment fastening system for easy removal and re-attachment in the event of hurricane and hurricane force winds.

Shade protection on a playground protects not only children and adults from dangerous UV rays, heat, and glare but also prolongs the life of expensive playground equipment and surfacing from premature wear and deterioration.
