Background:
This is a purchase of the Fluid Patrol 29 Rigid Inflatable Boat that will allow the Delray Beach Police Department to enforce laws, respond to emergencies, and to patrol the 3+ miles of The Intracoastal Waterway and beach front, Lake Ida and 15+ miles of canals. The watercraft will be used to reach hard to reach locations not accessible by land, as well as to provide search and rescue services. The boat is a multi-use lower-draft boat suitable for patrolling canals as it doesn't need deep water. This purchase will allow the Delray Beach Police Department to enforce seawall ordinance, respond to boating accidents, and address numerous complaints related to boating and waterway users, such as speeding, consistently received throughout the year. Based on Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission statistics report for 2020, Palm Beach County has 37,322 registered vessels and is third of the top ten counties with most boating accidents. This will assist in closing the gap in existing services to the Delray Beach residents and visitors.
