Title

NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK PROCLAMATION

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to proclaim April 13 -19, 2025 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Body

Background:

The purpose of Public Safety Telecommunicators week is to recognize and honor the contributions of 911 Telecommunicators each year; the week is recognized nationally and celebrated in every 911 dispatch center across the country in appreciation of the men and women whose diligence, expertise, and professionalism serve as the lifeline between the community and emergency responders, keeping our city and citizens safe.

Public Safety Telecommunicators are the first and most critical point of contact for our citizens in emergency situations, providing life-saving instructions, maintaining composure under pressure, and coordinating rapid responses in times of crisis. These professionals serve as a vital link for law enforcement, relaying essential information, monitoring activities through radio and computer systems, and ensuring the safety of police officers. The Public Safety Telecommunicators of the Delray Beach Police Department work tirelessly, 24/7, demonstrating exceptional skill, professionalism, and dedication in handling emergencies, apprehending criminals, and safeguarding residents, visitors, and travelers alike.

Since 1991, Congress has designated the second full week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to recognize and honor their invaluable contributions to public safety.
