Motion to Approve Revocable License Agreement with Delray Students First, Inc. to provide a mentoring, tutoring, and guidance program at Catherine Strong Park for the term of one year with an option for one additional year.

 

Body

Background:

In March 2016, the Commission approved a one year extension to the Revocable License Agreement with Delray Students First, Inc. to provide a mentoring, tutoring, and guidance program to economically disadvantaged students at Catherine Strong Park.

 

Delray Students First, Inc. (DSF), is a Florida not-for-profit corporation, that has been working collectively with Delray Beach Parks and Recreation since 2015. Delray Students First submits quarterly reports on their progress and to date have served over 50 youth annually. They are educating students on financial literacy,  providing hands on science and technology sessions for middle schoolers, teaching sustainable practices through vegetable gardening, addressing college prep through ACT/SAT exam prep classes, and providing a variety of weekly lectures focusing on issues involving men, the value of lifelong community involvement, and other student enrichment topics.

 

City Attorney Review:

Approved as to form and legal sufficiency.

 

Finance Department Review:

Finance recommends approval.

This matter is time sensitive, as the current agreement with Delray Students First expires on April 8, 2017.
