Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to proclaim the month of April as Autism Acceptance Month.

Body

Background:

Autism Acceptance Month is observed annually in April to promote awareness, understanding, and inclusion of individuals with autism. Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD), is a neurological and developmental condition with symptoms that affects how individuals communicate, interact socially, and experience behavior and sensory processing. Many individuals benefit from ongoing support, including educational, behavioral, and community based services that enhance independence, safety, and overall quality of life. While there is no cure, research supports that early identification and intervention, along with access to appropriate services, can significantly improve lives and help individuals reach their full potential.

The 'infinity" symbol associated with autism acceptance represents the diversity of the spectrum and the infinite variations of human experience within the autistic community, emphasizing neurodiversity and inclusion.
