Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City enter into an agreement with Palm Beach State College for the purpose of providing on-site emergency childbirth training to department personnel.
Body
Background:
The Fire-Rescue Department requires on-going emergency medical training to maintain proficiency in caring for the citizens and visitors to the city. A discipline that requires in-depth training is emergency childbirth. These calls are low frequency, high liability events that are very stressful for paramedics working in the field. This training will enable our personnel to feel more confident when encountering a woman in labor and facilitate emergency childbirth, when necessary, prior to arriving at the hospital. Cost $8,100.
