Title

APPROVAL TO AUTHORIZE TWO AGREEMENTS FOR STUDENT RIDERS FOR CLINICAL EXPERIENCES ON FIRE RESCUE TRUCKS

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to approve authorization of the execution of two separate agreements: one between the City of Delray Beach and Palm Beach State College, and one between the City of Delray Beach and the Coral Springs Regional Institute for Public Safety, to allow students to participate in Fire Rescue ride-alongs as part of their educational and clinical training.

Body

Background:

As a provider of emergency medical services, the Fire Rescue Department supports strong partnerships with local educational institutions. These partnerships include both undergraduate and postgraduate programs that send students to ride with our rescue units and engage in interactions with our EMS professionals, allowing them to gain hands-on experience. This is a commensal relationship as our staff members teach and mentor future EMT and paramedic students. This also allows the department to gain exposure to potential job candidates. The student ride-along program has been successful for both the participating institutions and the department, fostering relationships that create lasting benefits for our community.
