Recommendation
Motion to recognize the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month in Delray Beach, Florida.
Body
Background:
People in the United States have celebrated Parks and Recreation Month in July to promote health and wellness and encourage environmental stewardship in our parks and beaches. Launched in 1985, This marks the 40th anniversary of Parks and Recreation Month.
Parks and Recreation programming and activities, such as out of school programming and youth sports are critical to childhood development. Park and Recreation programs are essential to community health and well-being and they help cultivate lifelong friendships, memories and family bonds that people hold dear decades later.
Agencies across the country recognize the month of July with summer programs, events, and celebrations. The services that parks and recreation provide are vital for our communities and the month encourages everyone to reflect on the value parks, recreation, and park and recreation professionals bring to their communities. Together we’re building and maintaining sustainable parks and green spaces for current and future generations and building thriving communities focused on health and well-being, accessibility and inclusivity.
The City of Delray Beach invites all citizens to celebrate and support Parks and Recreation Month by attending one of our special events, enrolling in one of our programs, or by visiting our many parks and recreation facilities located throughout the community.
