Recommendation
Motion to approve additional spending and a contract increase to the Master Services Agreement with Shade Systems, Inc. for the Purchase and Installation of Sunshade Structures at Lakeview Park and Leon Weekes Environmental Preserve in the amount of $222,582.10 for a revised contract amount of $507,148.10.

Body
Background:
On August 12, 2025 the City Commission approved Resolution No. 159-25 authorizing a Master Contractor/Services Agreement with Shade Systems, Inc. for the Purchase and Installation of Sunshade Structures utilizing the School Board of Alachua County Invitation for Bid 24-13 in the Amount of $284,566.00.

Shade structures over playgrounds are essential in South Florida, providing families with a safe and comfortable environment to enjoy recreational equipment year-round. In addition to reducing the heat, shaded playgrounds offer UV protection- helping to prevent sunburn and long-term skin damage. Investing in shade will also extend the life of the playground equipment by reducing sun exposure, fading, and deterioration which enhance safety and comfort in addition to providing long-term cost efficiency. These improvements will be funded through the General Obligation Bond allocated for park enhancement projects.

This motion is in accordance with the City Code of Ordinances, Section 36.02 and City Policies, Change Orders and Amendments.
