Title
PROCLAMATION - DESIGNATING APRIL 24, 2026 AS ARBOR DAY
Body
Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Motion to proclaim April 24, 2026, as Arbor Day in the City of Delray Beach.
Body
Background:
Every year, the City of Delray Beach celebrates Arbor Day in recognition of the many benefits that trees bring to our City. Some of these benefits include enhancing community health by encouraging outdoor activities, and improving water quality by reducing erosion and taking up nutrients. Delray Beach values tree resources and has robust programs to protect and maintain existing canopy. To increase canopy, the City set an ambitious goal of planting 10,000 trees by 2026, and nearing the end of Year 4 of this program, we are on track to meet this goal. Arbor Day will be celebrated this year with a tree giveaway event at the CoCo Market, where more than 175 native and fruit trees will be given to City residents. The City of Delray Beach has been designated as a Tree City USA for many years, and this proclamation satisfies one of the requirements for the current year.
