Title

PRESENTATION OF RECOMMENDATION BY PUBLIC ART ADVISORY BOARD TO INITIATE A PILOT PROGRAM TO WRAP UTILITY BOXES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA

Recommendation

The City Commission is asked to receive a presentation from the Public Art Advisory Board regarding a pilot program to wrap utility boxes in the downtown area.

Body

Background:

The Public Art Advisory Board (PAAB) made a presentation of an earlier version of this potential pilot project to wrap utility boxes in the downtown area at their August 5, 2024 meeting.  During the previous presentation, the Commission raised questions regarding cost, whether the PAAB had reached out to the Director of Public Works and the utility box owners (City, Florida Power and Light, Florida Department of Transportation, and the Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department's Traffic Division), and several other concerns.  Since that time, the PAAB has had speakers from various utilities at their meetings and City staff has reached out to the Public Art Director for Palm Beach County, who recently undertook a similar program, to gather more relevant information. The PAAB then authorized member Bob Costello to prepare and present to the CIty Commission an updated pilot program and to seek Commission approval for the project to move forward.

Mr. Costello will be in attendance at the meeting to make the presentation and answer the Commission's questions.
