Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to proclaim May 11 through May 17 as Delray Beach Police Department Memorial Week.

Body

Background:

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community. It is important to recognize and voice appreciation for Delray Beach Department employees for their service, efforts, and dedicated commitment to the community and for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime, as well as pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
