Background:
The Delray Full Service Center campus, which was formerly known as Carver High School, consists of 14 buildings which were constructed between 1957-1961. Over the years, the campus has fallen into disrepair so the Palm Beach County School Board (Board) is looking to develop the facility as an adult education center with $10 million obtained from the 2016 voter approved one cent sales tax referendum.
The Board is looking to demolish all buildings on campus, except the existing gymnasium facility which will be transformed into an auditorium and cultural facility. If the gymnasium cannot be remodeled then the cafeteria building will be remodeled instead which will function as an auditorium. The Board has received approval from the Florida Department of Education for demolition of the existing campus and is working with the Florida Division of Historical Resources to mitigate the adverse effects of demolishing this historic property.
