Background:
The City of Delray Beach is seeking authorization to submit an application to the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) Blighted and Distressed Property Cleanup Grant Program for the FY 2026-2027 funding cycle. This annual grant program provides financial assistance to municipalities for the removal of blight, enhancement of public safety, and improvement of neighborhood aesthetics through targeted cleanup and restoration activities. SWA has run this program for a number of years without alteration thus, Staff has proactively reviewed the grant requirements prior to the formal notice of grant availability and initiated the internal approval process to ensure the City is fully prepared and compliant prior to submitting the application. This early coordination reflects our commitment to responsible grant management and timely pursuit of external funding opportunities.
Mike Machek Boy Scout Park, located at 413 Lake Ida Road, has been identified as a qualifying project site due to the deteriorated condition of the perimeter fencing along the rear property line. The fencing has become structurally compromised over time, resulting in visible blight, safety concerns, and diminished usability of the park space. Public Works staff have confirmed that replacement of the damaged fencing is necessary to restore the park’s boundary, improve security, and enhance the overall appearance of the facility.
