Motion to proclaim the week of May 19 to May 25, 2024 as Public Works Week in the City of Delray Beach.

Background:
Public Works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to the health, high quality of life and well-being of the residents of the City of Delray Beach. Across the nation and here at home, these infrastructure improvements, facilities, and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of Public Works Professionals at all levels of government and the private sectors. These engineers, managers, maintenance workers and the like, are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our nation’s transportation, water supply, water treatment and stormwater management systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for citizen.
It is in the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders, and children in the City of Delray Beach to gain knowledge of and to maintain a progressive interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities. The year 2024 marks the 64th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association. This year’s theme “Advancing Quality of Life for All” reflects the contributions of Public Works to advancing and enhancing our quality of life, no matter where we live in the world.
