Background:
In 2014, the City applied for and received a grant from the Palm Beach County Transporation Planning Agency (TPA) to provide for improved bicycle lanes, pedestrian detectors and drainage on Swinton Avenue from SE 10th Street to N. 4th Street. The design and construction management of the proposed improvements for the Swinton Avenue project are being performed by the FDOT. The project is in the final design phase by FDOT, and includes providing new five-foot paved shoulders to serve as bicycle lanes along both sides of the corridor, upgrading signage and pavement markings, replacing pedestrian detectors, adding drainage improvements including exfiltration trenches, swales and impacted drainage inlets, and adding sidewalk from S. 10th Street to S. 2nd Street. The project limits are on Swinton Avenue from S. 10th Street to N. 4th Street.
This FDOT project will provide resurfacing and minimal improvements between N. 2nd Avenue and S. 2nd Avenue, as the City has a seperate project to improve at the intersection of Swinton Avenue and Atlantic Avenue between N. 2nd Avenue and S. 2nd Avenue. The Swinton and Atlantic intersection project is budgeted in the City's FY 18/19 Capital Improvement Program.
