Title
PROCLAMATION: PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH
Body
Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Motion to recognize the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month in Delray Beach, Florida.
Body
Background:
People across the United States celebrate Parks and Recreation Month each July to promote health and wellness and encourage environmental stewardship in our parks and beaches. Launched in 1985, this year marks the 41st anniversary of Parks and Recreation Month.
Parks and Recreation programming and activities, including youth sports and out of school programs, are critical to childhood development. These programs are essential to community health and well-being, appreciation for nature, and help create lifelong friendships, memories, and family bonds that people hold dear for decades.
Agencies across the country recognize the month of July with summer programs, events, and celebrations. The services provided by parks and recreation agencies are vital for our communities and the month encourages everyone to reflect on the value parks, recreation, and parks and recreation professionals bring to their communities.
Together we are building and maintaining sustainable parks and green spaces for current and future generations while supporting thriving communities focused on health and well-being, accessibility, and inclusivity.
The City of Delray Beach invites all residents to celebrate and support Parks and Recreation Month by enrolling in one of our programs, attending our events, or visiting the many parks and recreation facilities located throughout the community
