This item provides information regarding "Run with the Chief" community engagement event.

Background:

• Event Name: Run with the Chief

• Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026

• Location: 1-499 E Atlantic Ave & 1-199 NE 2nd Ave (Pineapple Grove)

• Setup / Road Closures Begin: 6:30 AM

• Event Start Time: 8:00 AM

• Event End Time: 9:00 AM

• Breakdown / Road Reopening: 9:30 AM

 

Safety and Route Finalization:

The Delray Beach Police Department has finalized the route after careful review of all relevant

factors. The route has been selected to ensure the safety of participants and the community. Road

closures will be limited to local streets and will not require approval from the Department of

Transportation, allowing the event to proceed safely and efficiently.

 

Event Description:

This community engagement walk and run will be led by Police Chief Hunter alongside members of

the Delray Beach Police Department. The one-mile route will begin on East Atlantic Avenue, proceed

eastbound to East 5th Avenue, return westbound to NE 2nd Avenue, continue north through

Pineapple Grove to NE 2nd Street, and conclude at Worthing Park.

 

Purpose and Community Benefit:

The event is designed to strengthen the connection between the police department and the

community in a positive, non-enforcement setting. It provides residents with direct access to interact

with police leadership and our new officers, fostering transparency, trust, and approachability.

Additionally, the event promotes health and wellness while creating meaningful opportunities for

dialogue, engagement, and partnership-building in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
