Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve the locations for the Art Citywide Project as noted in Attachment A -  Proposed Locations - Art Citywide.

Body

Background:

On July 5, 2016, the Public Art Advisory Board made their Annual Presentation to the Commission detailing their 2016-2017 Work Plan (attached) . Included in this plan was the installation of 15 "Art Chairs" as part of the Citywide Artist In Residence project.  The Commission also approved the agreements for PAAB Creative Artist in Residency Project to Agata Ren and Mark Fuller at the July 5, 2016 Regular Commission Meeting. The artists have been working since July to engage local community leaders and groups to design a series of sculptural chairs that represent various aspects of Delray Beach. These groups have included the Historical Society, WARC, Spady Cultural Museum, the Delray Beach Public Library, the Achievement Center, and City Departments (including Fire, Police, Parks and Recreation, and Environmental Services. As part of the engagement process, the artists asked each group to suggest locations for the art chairs, which would engage the community and visitors to find each chair and further their interest in Delray Beach. The art chairs will each have a QR Code located on the chair which gives the history of the process of the chair development and the location of other chairs. The installation of the chairs will be completed by Parks and Recreation and Environmental Services, with oversight by the artists, to ensure that all safety measures and the integrity of the chair/art are not compromised.
