Title

REVOCABLE LICENSE AGREEMENT - COMMUNITY GREENING

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve a revocable license agreement with Community Greening for use of classroom  No. 4 at Catherine Strong Park for staff preparations in support of environmental programming sponsored by Delray Parks and Recreation and Community Greening.

Body

Background:

In September 2016, Delray Beach Parks and Recreation entered into a contract with Community Greening to provide invasive species management in specific parks through the provision of community engagement opportunities. Community Greening is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the environment through environmental stability and community building. The specific parks addressed were Barwick Park (October - December), Bexley Trail (December - February), and Orchard View (January - March). Community Greening held various events at the City's parks and was able to engage community residents, local businesses, and other non-profit organizations.

Moving forward, Community Greening and Parks and Recreation will continue to work collaboratively to develop the Community Orchard at Catherine Strong Park, provide environmental education classes and work to enhance the community garden that is currently maintained by Delray Students First and the Boys and Girls Club. Future invasive removal projects are being planned as well. Community Greening is an asset to Catherine Strong Park and is working collaboratively with the other mentoring and educational programs/organizations that utilize the facility. This agreement would provide Community Greening with a classroom to facilitate its staff in planning and preparing local events as well as provide educational classes to members of the community.
