Title

RESOLUTION NO. 24-17

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve Resolution No. 24-17 asserting opposition to HB 7063.

Body

Background:

This Resolution expresses the City Commission’s opposition to HB 7063 and urges members of the Florida Legislature to oppose same.  HB 7063 establishes the Local Government Fiscal Responsibility Act which amends current laws relating to a local government’s financial government.  HB 7063 interferes with a municipality’s ability to address local issues, respond to emergencies and adopt fiscal policies that reflect the municipality’s financial situation.  Additionally, HB 7063 restricts a local government’s flexibility to accrue healthy reserves to fund infrastructure projects, potentially resulting in fewer infrastructure projects.  HB 7063 further restricts a local government’s ability to extend or increase certain local option taxes.

Copies of this Resolution would be distributed by the City Clerk to Governor Rick Scott, the Florida Speaker of the House, the Florida President of the Senate, the Palm Beach County League of Cities, and the Florida League of Cities.
