Title

RESOLUTION NO. 32-17: REQUEST TO NAME SW 6TH AVENUE, FROM WEST ALANTIC AVENUE TO SW 10TH STREET, "SW 6TH AVENUE / JAMES LAMAR SHULER AVENUE".

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve Resolution No. 32-17 to name SW 6th Avenue, from West Atlantic Avenue to SW 10th Street, "SW 6th Avenue / James Lamar Shuler Avenue" consistent with the "double" street naming on streets within the City of Delray Beach.

Body

Background:

Ms. Carey-Shuler, widow of Mr. Shuler, submitted a request to name SW 6th Avenue, from West Atlantic Avenue to SW 10th Street, "James Lamar Shuler Avenue" in recognition of Mr. Shuler's contributions to the City of Delray Beach. If approved, the street name will have a "double" name similar to Martin Luther King Boulevard (NE 2nd Street) and Pineapple Grove Way (NE 2nd Avenue). The request was presented to the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in March and the CRA approved Resolution No. 2017-03 (attached). The request was also considered by the Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board on March 20, 2017, and recommended approval of the request.
