Title
RATIFY AND APPROVE AN EMERGENCY PURCHASE TO SOUTHEAST TRUCK SPECIALISTS, INC. FOR THE REPAIR AND REFINISHING OF RESCUE TRUCK NO. 201668

Body
Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Motion to Ratify and approve an emergency purchase to Southeast Truck Specialists, Inc. in the amount of $65,000 for the repair and refinishing of Rescue Truck No. 201668.

Body
Background:
On February 27, 2017, the City Manager approved an emergency acquisition to perform immediate collision repairs to the Delray Beach Horton Rescue Truck No. 201668. This Rescue Truck was involved in an accident and towed to Southeast Truck Specialists for damage evaluation. The repairs were approved as an emergency purchase so the Rescue Truck could be returned to service immediately to ensure proper public safety.

The cost of the repairs to this vehicle was estimated to be $59,401.14. After disassembling some of the damaged components of the truck, a subsequent inspection and repair appraisal was performed by an independent appraisal company, Property Damage Appraisers, where they discovered additional damages that increased the repair costs to $59,924.64. In addition to the repair costs, Interim City Manager Chief de Jesus requested that while the truck is in for repairs that it also be refinished to match the new paint scheme implemented on the new Fire-Rescue vehicles. The quote for refinishing this truck is $4,520.00. Staff is seeking a contingency fund of $555.36 to allow for minor modifications to the refinishing quote, as well as other unforeseen repair costs.

This recommendation complies with the City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 36, Section 36.02(C)(5), "Emergency Acquisitions".
