Title

APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH BENNETT FIRE PRODUCTS COMPANY, INC. FOR PURCHASE OF FIREFIGHTER BUNKER GEAR

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to Approve Amendment No. 1 to the purchase agreement with Bennett Fire Products Company, Inc. for firefighter bunker gear in the annual not-to-exceed amount of $200,000.

Body

Background:

On March 30, 2017, Commission approved a purchase agreement with Bennett Fire Products Company, Inc. through March 31, 2019, with one, one-year option to renew. The original purchase agreement for bunker gear is for a total annual amount not to exceed $100,000. After re-evaluating their needs for bunker gear, the Fire Department is requesting that an additional $100,000 be added to the annual agreement amount, increasing the total annual not to exceed amount to $200,000.  This increase of the agreement amount will cover the replacement of 28 expired sets of bunker gear, the purchase of bunker gear for approximately 25 new firefighters, and the purchase of an additional 22 sets of bunker gear to replace expired bunker gear, which may be purchased in the early months of Fiscal Year 2018. The cost of each set of bunker gear is approximately $2,500.

Bunker gear helps protect firefighters from the repercussions of a fire.  As part of the City specifications, the gear must meet requirements set forth in NFPA 1851: Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting, and NFPA 1971: Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting (2014 edition).

This recommendation complies with the City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 36, Section 36.02 "Commission Approval Required".
