Title

APPROVAL OF AN EXTENSION OF THE CONTRACT BETWEEN LHOIST NORTH AMERICA OF ALABAMA, LLC AND THE CITY OF DELRAY BEACH THROUGH DECEMBER 15, 2017 FOR QUICKLIME FOR WATER TREATMENT.

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to approve an extension of the contract between LHoist North America of Alabama, LLC and the City of Delray Beach (City) for the purchase of bulk quicklime in a not-to-exceed amount of $920,000 through December 15, 2017, using the Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth Cooperative Purchase Bid No. 009-2821-13/JMA.

Body

Background:

On October 15, 2013, the City Commission approved a two-year purchase award for quicklime using the Cities of Boynton Beach (lead agency), Delray Beach, and Lake Worth cooperative Bid No. 009-2821-13/JMA (Bid). The Bid award provided for three additional one year renewal periods.   The City of Boynton Beach Commission approved renewal of the purchase award at its November 15, 2016 meeting extending the contract through December 15, 2017. This is the third and final renewal.

Quicklime is used to adjust the pH of untreated well water, preparing the water for treatment, and to remove hardness which in turn, prevents scaling in water pipes.  Chemical use at the water treatment plant varies based on the amount of drinking water used by customers. The renewal price to the City effective January 1, 2017 is $287.08 per ton delivered. Based on historical use, a not-to-exceed amount for fiscal year 2017 of $920,000 is requested.

This motion is in accordance with the City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 36.
