Title
REQUEST FROM OLD SCHOOL SQUARE FOR CITY OF DELRAY BEACH SUPPORT FOR OPERATIONAL COSTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $240,000 BY JUNE 1, 2018 AND APPROVAL OF A BUDGET AMENDMENT FROM UNRESTRICTED GENERAL FUND RESERVE FOR THE REQUESTED AMOUNT

Body
Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Approval of funding request from Old School Square for operational costs in the amount of $240,000 by June 1, 2018 and approval of a budget amendment from the City's unrestricted General Fund reserve for the requested amount.

Body
Background:
Old School Square (OSS) is located in a historic area at 51 North Swinton Avenue in Delray Beach. The 5-acre site is at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton Avenue, anchoring the City's downtown shopping district. The campus includes restored early 20th century school buildings, formerly Delray Elementary and Delray High School, which were re-adapted as the Cornell Art Museum, Crest Theatre and Fieldhouse. Also the campus includes the Pavilion in the center grounds, which is an outdoor entertainment stage with grass seating area, as well as the Old School Square Park just to the east.

The Board of Directors of OSS is requesting an adjustment to their 2017-2018 funding request from the City of Delray Beach (City). They are requesting an additional $240,000 from the City. (A separate request will be made to the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) which could be as much as $1,000,000). Attached is a letter outlining the needs for the additional funding, which letter is pending revision to address it to the City Manager not the CRA. Also attached is financial information.

Members of OSS will be available at the City Commission meeting to address any concerns or questions.
