Body
Background:
Voters in Florida will be presented constitutional amendments on the November 6, 2018, ballot, one of which will eliminate commercial greyhound racing in Florida by 2020. Records indicate a greyhound dies on average every three days at a Florida racetrack and since 2008 more than 400 greyhounds tested positive for drugs, including cocaine. Greyhounds are routinely kept in warehouse-style kennels in cages barely large enough to stand up or turn around. Resolution 130-18 encourages the City’s residents to consider these factors when voting on the November 6, 2018, ballot and formalizes the City’s support and approval for the amendment.
