FUTURE DELRAY BEACH GOLF CLUB (DBGC) RENOVATIONS

Body

Recommendation
Seeking direction on:
1. Golf Course Renovation
2. Renovation & Future Operating Finance Options

Body
Background:
The Delray Beach Golf Club (DBGC) is a unique course designed by not one (1), but two (2) renowned Golf Architects. Donald Ross designed the front 9 holes, while the back 9-hole design was completed by Dick Wilson. The most recent complete 18-hole course renovation was done in 1992. The greens and bunkers were re-built, the fairways were re-grassed, and new cart paths were installed. Since that time, the greens were re-built again in 2002 and the bunkers in 2005. On course irrigation has been largely ignored throughout the renovations.
Course consulting visits from the US Golf Association were conducted in 2017 and again in 2018. A course evaluation and Master Plan was completed by Sanford Golf Design in 2016 intending to restore and preserve the golf course in the tradition of Donald Ross and Dick Wilson while modernizing the course to today’s standards. In 2017 NGF consulting completed a Business Evaluation of Preliminary Capital Plan to address the deferred maintenance and capital needs of DBGC and restore the golf course to a place of prominence in the local and regional golf markets.
In accordance with the recommendations from the Sanford Golf Design Report and the NGF Business Evaluation of Preliminary Capital Plan, as well as the recommendations of the Men's and Women's Golf Leagues, staff is recommending to invest an estimated 7.2 million dollars for a complete renovation of the golf course.

Timing of Request:
If approved, staff can begin the process to renovate the course during the 2020 off-season (April-September).
