Background:
The City requested a Legislative Appropriation for improvements to the Atlantic Dunes Park to provide stormwater management and parking lot reconstruction, as well as a number of park improvements. Atlantic Dunes Park is located at 1605 South Ocean Boulevard, along the Coastal Dune in Delray Beach. The Park’s parking lot area suffers from water quality issues created by storm events and higher high tides (King Tides) induced flooding and a low seawall on the Intracoastal Waterway that allows contaminants from the parking area to flow into the waterway. Additionally, the park has significant invasive exotic plant species overgrowth; the park improvement project proposes to remove exotic vegetation and replace with appropriate plantings for the Coastal Dune Ecosystem and to add a raised boardwalk pedestrian nature trail with kiosks providing the educational information and natural history aspects of the area.

The Florida Legislature approved the City for $300,000 in funding which will be provided through a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) grant.
