APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION NO. 49-19 WITH KONE INC.FOR MODERNIZATION OF BOTH ELEVATORS AT THE OLD SCHOOL SQUARE PARKING GARAGE - $338,267

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to adopt Resolution No. 49-19 and approve an agreement with Kone Inc. for an estimated cost of $338,267 and authorize the City Manager to approve renewal options, in the same amounts.

Body

Background:

On December 1, 2018 the City of Kansas City, Missouri awarded a six-year contract to Kone Inc., effective from December 1, 2018 through November 30, 2024 with renewal options for five, one-year periods. The solicitation was conducted by the City of Kansas City as the lead agency for the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance. The City of Delray Beach (City) is currently registered as a Participating Public Agency with the U.S. Communities Governmental Purchasing Alliance.

U.S. Communities aggregates the purchasing power of more than 55,000 public agencies nationwide by offering Participating Public Agencies the ability to make purchases through existing, competitively solicited contracts between a supplier and a lead public agency. Each lead public agency awards its contract to a supplier after a competitive solicitation process designed to ensure that Participating Public Agencies receive the highest quality products and services at the lowest possible prices. Once the lead public agency has awarded a contract with the supplier, the lead public agency allows other Participating Public Agencies in need of similar products and services to make purchases through the existing contract through U.S. Communities. This ensures that all Participating Public Agencies have access to the same terms and conditions of the existing competitively solicited contract.

Properly functioning and safe elevators are of vital importance for the use of this City facility. In elevator systems, wear is one of the most common reasons to modernize. Elevators that have been operating for a long time often show signs of wear that can lead to faults or even failure. Both of the elevators at the Old School Square Parking Garage have reached their engineered lifecycle, as such, it is imperative that the City modernize both units to prevent any interruptions of service to this important location.

Kone Inc. evaluated both elevator systems and provided a not-to-exceed price of $338,267 to modernize both elevators.

This motion is in accordance with City Ordinance and Purchasing Policy; Acessing Contracts from Other Government Agencies and Not-for-Profit Organizations
