Title
RESOLUTION 120-19: APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT WITH SMITH AND WESSON FOR TRADE OF DUTY WEAPONS

Body
Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Motion to approve Resolution # 120-19 approving an agreement with Smith and Wesson for trade of Police Department’s duty weapons at no cost to the City.

Body
Background:
Currently the Police Department utilizes Smith and Wesson M&P 1.0 9mm duty weapons. Smith and Wesson is offering the Police Department an even trade where hundred and eighty-three (183) existing duty weapons would be replaced with hundred and eighty-three (183) M&P M2.0 9mm NS pistols.

M2.0 is a new model in the respected M&P polymer pistol line. The M&P M2.0 delivers an entirely new platform, introducing innovative features in nearly every aspect of the pistol, for enhanced performance. Highlights of the M&P M2.0 pistol include:
Low barrel bore axis makes the M&P pistol more comfortable to shoot reducing muzzle rise and allowing for faster aim recovery.
Optimal 18-degree grip angle for natural point of aim.
Four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts for optimal hand fit and trigger reach - S, M, ML, L.
Aggressive grip texture for enhanced control.
New M&P M2.0 crisp trigger with lighter trigger pull.
Tactile and audible trigger reset.
Accurate 1 in 10” twist M&P M2.0 barrel.
Extended rigid embedded stainless-steel chassis to reduce flex and torque when firing.
Armornite® durable corrosion resistant finish.

The cost of each M&P M2.0 is $417, making the total $76,311. Smith and Wesson is offering an even trade with existing duty weapons so that there is no cost to the City for this trade. Due to the value of the new models being over $65,000, it is recommended that this agreement be approved by the City Commission.
