Recommended Action:
Recommendation
Motion to approve Resolution No. 156-19 for the City of Delray Beach pledging to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure every resident is counted as part of the 2020 Census.
Body
Background:
The City of Delray Beach has established a Complete Counts Committee (“Committee”) to support and promote the 2020 Census to ensure every resident of Delray Beach is counted. In prior years, the Census was conducted largely by paper mailings and manual follow-up of non-responders. In 2020, residents will be able to complete the questionnaire online, by phone, and if requested, by a paper form through the mail. From March 12 - March 20, 2020 postcards will be mailed to each address with instructions.
The Committee is in the process of creating a marketing strategy to help educate and inform Delray Beach Citizens including those that are hard to reach. The U.S. Census Specialist will be conducting a training for the Complete Count Committee in October and has requested the City approve a Resolution pledging our support to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau which is the action now before the City Commission.
