Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to approve Ordinance No. 32-19 amending Chapter 32 "Education Board" by amending Section 32.29 "Duties and Responsibilities to replace this section in its entirety with new Duties and Responsibilities.

Body

Background:

The Education Board was established in 1990 via Ordinance 24-90.  The Ordinance contained eight (8) Duties and Responsibilities two (2) of which were modified in 2000. The current Duties and Responsibilities are almost 20 years old and are antiquated. The Board spent several meetings discussing their role as an advisory board and are recommending five (5) new Duties and Responsibilities that align with Goals and Policies outlined in the Education Element of the Comprehensive Plan; their capacity to fulfill the Duties and Responsibities based on their meeting schedule of once a month, and working under sunshine laws.

At its meeting of June 3, 2019, the Education Board unanimously recommended approval of the amended  Duties and Responsibilities to be considered by the City Commission for final approval.
