RETROACTIVE APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR FY2019-20 SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY BLIGHTED PROPERTY GRANT

Recommendation

Motion to approve application to the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County. If approved, this grant would provide funds to address activities related to demolishing structures and improvements for future development; removal of demolition products, rubble and other debris; physical removal of environmental contaminants or treatment for related improvements for commercial/residential units pursuant to zoning requirement within the incorporated city limits of Delray Beach.

BACKGROUND:

Application for the funds will be required to specify proposed projects, means and methods by which the project will be accomplished and an estimate of the total cost of project.  The primary goal of this request is to assist in the cleanup or beautification of distressed, blighted or otherwise impacted properties and to maintain safe, habitable and viable neighborhoods. These funds will be used by the City to improve the quality of life and provide a safer, healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the residents of the City of Delray Beach. All properties addressed must be City owned and within the municipal boundaries of the City.  Project proposal to perform revitalization at the Swinton Operation Complex, 434 Swinton Avenue Delray Beach, FL 33444 for the following:

1.                     Removal and replacement of fencing along the perimeter and/or

2.                     The tow yard within the complex and/or

3.   Other qualified City-owned site/improvements.

 

All improvements enhance the aesthetics of the property and meet code compliance. This is an eligible, cost-reimbursement contract funded by SWA. The City has previously received this grant for the last four consecutive years.  

 

CITY ATTORNEY REVIEW:

Approved as to form and legal sufficiency.

 

FISCAL IMPACT/FUNDING SOURCE

Funding for the proposal for FY 19/20 will be included in account numbers 118-54-524-554.34-21 - Other Contractual Services Cleanup and Beautification.
