2. Select and approve the gateway sign design to be located on US 1 north of George Bush Boulevard)

Background:
At its meeting of May 14, 2019, the CRA Board approved a Work Assignment with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. (Kimley-Horn) for the Wayfinding Signage Design Project (Project) to replace the wayfinding signs located within the CRA District. The scope of work includes services from design development to bidding assistance including meetings, design development, construction/ bidding documents, permitting, and bidding assistance. The work assignment excludes construction administration services.

Due to the nature of the Project, the CRA and Kimley-Horn agreed to enter into a First Amendment to the Work Assignment, dated May 13, 2020, in order to extend the timeline for Kimley-Horn to complete the Project.

During this time, there have been several meetings with the Steering Committee. In addition, different rounds of sketches and updates have been presented to and discussed with the CRA Board.

Also, on July 10, 2020, CRA staff and Kimley-Horn had a preliminary meeting with City staff to discuss the project as coordination with the City is necessary since the signs are located in the City right-of-way.

At this time, the Steering Committee has selected a final sign array and a CRA map of vehicular sign locations and sign content. CRA staff recommends approving the Steering Committee’s selections in order to move forward to the next phase of the Project.
