Staff is requesting retroactive approval from Commission for submittal of an Alternative Water Supply (AWS) grant application to the South Florida Water Management District (District). The City of Delray Beach submitted the qualifying project to the District on July 27, 2020 for funding consideration.

Background:
Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature approved $40 million in funding for developing water supply and water resource projects. The District, on July 6, 2020, issued a solicitation for accepting applications through July 31, 2020 for cost-share projects to develop alternative water supply and water conservation projects within the District's 16-county service area. The grant may offer up to 50% matching supplemental funding in the form of reimbursements, after the project’s completion.
This process is part of the State of Florida's continued efforts to identify and implement cost-effective strategies to protect the State's water resources while meeting Florida's water needs. Partnering with local governments and other entities for implementation of water conservation projects and development of alternative water projects is an important and effective way to help accomplish this goal.
The City has applied for this grant in previous years when the funding was available and have in the past received funding for expansion of our reclaimed water system for irrigation as well as funding for installation of automatic line flushers. Total funding the City has received in the p...
