DISCUSSION OF NEW REGULATION TO APPOINT AN ELECTED OFFICIAL TO SERVE ON THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to appoint an elected official to serve on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC)

Body

Background:

In April of 2008, Commission established the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) by Resolution 12-08 and later appointed ten members to serve on the AHAC.  The committee is required to discuss specific incentives set forth by FL Statute 420.9076.  It was amended in 2012 by Resolution 05-12 to appoint fewer than eleven (11) members in the presence of a conflict or inability to appoint citizens engaged in these activities in connection to affordable housing.

The Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) which is the guide of how the State Housing Partnership Program (SHIP) functions is required to be reviewed every three years. During this review period, the committee may recommend modification or repeal of existing policies, procedures, regulations; recommend the creation of exceptions applicable to affordable housing; recommend adoption of new policies or amendments to local comprehensive plan or to continue or revise current incentives.
