Background:
The West Atlantic Master Plan attached incorporates the edits presented and discussed at the final workshop. The main edits from the last version are in the Implementation Chapter, which starts on page 164. The introductory text has been revised as follows:
"To successfully transform the West Atlantic area neighborhoods, potential action strategies are suggested to realize the concepts in the plan and should be implemented in as timely and effective a manner as possible. Potential projects are prioritized by a proposed time frame of Short-term, Mid-term, and Long-term Action Items with possible funding sources and partners identified. These strategies will be programmed, adjusted, and augmented over time based upon funding resources and opportunities."
The West Atlantic Redevelopment Plan was originally adopted by the City Commission on July 11, 1995. The plan was last amended in November of 2000 by the “Visions West Atlantic” update. The 2000 plan called for gradual redevelopment with an emphasis on preserving and enhancing the existing neighborhoods, while promoting pedestrian-friendly commercial development along Atlantic Avenue, with a mix of residential, commercial, and civic functions. The redevelopment strategies outlined in the 2000 plan include recommendations on Future Land Use, Zoning, and Land Development Regulations (LDR) amendments.
