Title

PROJECT CONSULTANCY & DESIGN SERVICES FUNDING APPLICATION -BARRY SILVERMAN, LLC (ALSO KNOWN AS BEAR’S FOOD SHACK) (540 WEST ATLANTIC AVENUE)

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Approve a Project Consultancy & Design Services Funding Agreement with Barry Silverman, LLC (also known as Bear’s Food Shack or Bear’s Delray) for the proposed improvement project located at 540 West Atlantic Avenue, for an amount not to exceed $15,000.

Body

Background:

Bear’s Food Shack (Bear’s), owned by Mr. Barry Silverman (Owner), is requesting funding assistance under the Project Consultancy & Design Services Program for an improvement project at 540 West Atlantic Avenue, within CRA sub-area #3, for an amount not to exceed $15,000.

Since its establishment in 2017, Bear’s has become a popular local hotspot.  The casual, Hawaiian-themed restaurant attracts locals and visitors with its fun atmosphere and economically priced menu.  The laid-back eatery is open for breakfast and lunch, and open for dinner on the weekend.

Funding assistance is requested to design an enhanced outdoor eating area.  A conceptual sketch illustrates what the newly designed space will look like - it shows a built-out wrap-around deck and beautification of the surrounding area.  Bear’s also envisions the enhanced space will contribute to the City’s commitment to creating a seamless and visually appealing entrance to downtown Delray Beach along Atlantic Avenue.  After the completion of the conceptual designs and plans through the Project Consultancy & Design Services program, Bear’s anticipates applying for Site Development Assistance in order to help with the costs of the actual improvements.

A funding assistance award to Barry Silverman, LLC (also known as Bear’s Food Shack or Bear’s Delray) will help further advance the CRA’s mission by supporting the improvement and renovation of an existing commercial space within the CRA District.  Assisting businesses with the cost of interior and exterior improvements helps to eliminate blighted conditions and promote business activity in Sub-Area #3 of the CRA District.
