Title

APPROVAL TO ACCEPT EMERGENCY CHILD CARE RELIEF GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,750 FROM THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION (ELC) OF PALM BEACH COUNTY TO BE USED AT OUR TWO (2) OUT OF SCHOOL PROGRAM LOCATIONS

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to approve acceptance of additional grant funds through the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) to provide Emergency Child Care relief funds in the amount of $5,750 from the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Palm Beach County.

Body

Background:

The City of Delray Beach's Out of School program offers licensed childcare services through the Early Learning Coalition. The yearly agreement between the City of Delray Beach and the ELC provides scholarships for children to attend our after school program and summer camps. During the current pandemic, the ELC acquired funds through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) to provide Emergency Child Care Relief Grants to their partners in the childcare industry. Part of the relief act is an infusion of $3.5 billion into the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) to support existing federal programs providing the care and education of young children, as well as their families.

Funding was awarded in the amount of $19,950 and acceptance was approved on December 1, 2020. Another $5,750 was awarded to the City of Delray Beach for its two  sites, Pompey Park and the Community Center. These funds will be used for daily supplies including, but not limited to, health and safety supplies, sports equipment and arts and crafts. This is a non-matching grant.

City Attorney Review:

Approved as to form and legal sufficiency.

Funding Source/Financial Impact:

There is no negative financial impact as the CCDBG Grant will benefit the Out of School Program. This is pending the Mid-Year budget amendment.

Timing of Request:

It is time sensitive as the funds are being requested in the Mid-Year budget amendment.
