Body

Background:

Autism Awareness is observed annually in April and is intended to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder with symptoms that may present themselves in a variety of combinations, affecting communication and behavior.   It is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities in the world. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one in 54 school aged children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Research indicates that early diagnosis, intervention and access to support services leads to positive outcomes later in life for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
