Recommendation

Motion to approve Resolution No. 68-21 to award an agreement with TAW Power Systems, Inc. for the replacement of the emergency generator for the Information Technology building, utilizing  the School District of Palm Beach County Bid No. 19C-9T in the amount of $89,627.

Body

Background:

On January 24, 2019, The School District of Palm Beach County (District) awarded TAW Power Systems (TAW) Bid No. 19C-9T for generator inspections, servicing, rentals, and the purchase. The contract is valid from January 24, 2019  through January 23, 2022.

In 2008, City of Delray Beach (City) Commission approved the construction of a new stand-alone Information Technology Building (IT). One of the amenities included a self-contained emergency backup generator. Emergency generators are utilized to ensure auxiliary electrical power during times of power interruptions. In recent years, the existing generator has been prone to intermittent electronic issues directly associated to the age of the unit. Consequently, the Public Works Department budgeted for a replacement generator. The CIP budget adopted by City Commission on September 22, 2020 included an allocation for this replacement generator.

The City has a need to purchase a new generator utilizing the District contract pricing, terms, and conditions. TAW has provided a proposal in the amount of $89,627, which includes removal and relocation of the existing generator to a City property, a new replacement 200KW Kohler generator, 600-amp cam-lock generator docking station (this allows for quick bypassing of any existing generator in the event of a failure with the primary generator) and all applicable electrical material and labor to tie into the existing electrical infrastructure.
