Title

APPLICATION FOR EXTENDED RESIDENCY EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Approve an Extended Residency Exchange application for Pineapple Grove Mainstreet, Inc. and Dana Donaty for “Observations” Mural Restoration Project.

Body

Background:

Arts Warehouse offers two-week studio residencies as part of the Residency Exchange Program (Program). This Program hosts these Residency Exchange Artists in exchange for teaching two (2) public workshops and allowing the public to see the artist in action during Arts Warehouse business hours. Residency Exchange Artists have 24-hour access to the Arts Warehouse and their studio space, website presence on the Arts Warehouse website, and a potential opportunity to display their work at Arts Warehouse during, or after, their Residency Exchange period.

Arts Warehouse is focused on bringing attention to the value of process and techniques in contemporary artwork. Arts Warehouse is interested in bringing in Residency Exchange Artists whose work demonstrates a strong relationship between craft and content. The Program is intended to provide local and/or visiting artists the opportunity to generate new artwork, to facilitate the artistic growth and development, and to share what the artist is doing within the Arts Warehouse during the Residency Exchange Period, the local Delray Beach arts community, and the greater arts community.

For this particular Program application, Arts Warehouse and the CRA were approached by David Beale and Pineapple Grove Main Street, Inc. requesting an extended Residency Exchange period to facilitate the restoration of the “Observations”/Delray Camera Mural panels that will be relocated to the new Delray Camera Shop location at 217 NE 4th Avenue, Delray Beach, 33444. The application is for a 2nd floor studio space which will be able to accommodate the nine (9) panels and the supplies needed to complete the restoration. Dana Donaty, the artist who will be restoring the mural panels, has projected it will take approximately four (4) months for the restoration; therefore, the artist is requesting to extend the Residency Exchange period from two (2) weeks to four (4) months.

At this time, CRA Staff is requesting the approval of this application for an extended Residency Exchange period for Pineapple Grove Mainstreet, Inc. and Dana Donaty for “Observations” Mural Restoration Project. This would benefit Arts Warehouse by providing additional programming to in person visitors and participants through workshops, studio visits, activations, and virtually through video content.
