Recommendation
Motion to recognize staff of the Delray Beach Memorial Gardens Municipal Cemetery who worked tirelessly through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Body
Background:
The staff at the Delray Beach Memorial Gardens Municipal Cemetery provide an essential service to Delray Beach. During the pandemic they worked long hours due to the increased need for internments. This unprecedented time has proven to be both physically and emotionally stressful yet the team has remained positive, considerate and empathetic to internal and external clients. Not only do they complete their required duties and tasks while in the midst of a remodel that included creation and addition of much need grave space, fencing removal and installing and new landscaping, but also made the time to be compassionate and helpful to grieving families. With the increase in internments, one week had nine (9) in a single day. Staff have had to become creative staggering services to aid in the traffic at entrance/exits to avoid backups. They also have had to limit the size of crowds and maintain them within CDC guidelines, order and secure additional equipment, and staff have on multiple weeks worked seven (7) straight days with no days off.
